March 29, 2018 was the day I left some of my old habits behind.
I decided to delete all of my social media except my blog and youtube account. I wanted to have a fresh start and I am happy to say that I made it. I made it through those tough days of constantly checking my phone when it was just turning into a deep habit. I think I enjoyed life more and did more activities when I stayed away from my phone. Ironically, I had to get a new phone while on this journey because my older phone was just driving me insane. But, back to the main point of this wonderful post: I survived deleting all social media.
Social media was taking over my life and it clicked to me that it was really a waste of time for my daily life. I would automatically wake up and look at my phone for instagram likes and other gossip. I don't even like gossip but with social media you seem to care more about other people's lives as if it is a reality show which was and still is dumb to me. I think social media can be used for good when it comes to business, connecting with others through bookclubs and other unique ways but most of the time it makes people compare their lives or paths which isn't healthy.
I think I was overanalyzing more of who I was because of how social media just slowly starts to take over your everyday thoughts. Social media was created for a reason but it also became a big part of our lives in a negative way. Let's just say, I am glad that I left that part of my life behind. In the future I am not sure if I will gain a new Instagram because of future businesses I plan on doing. But, as of right now.. I don't plan on getting back on that band wagon.
QOTD: Do you use your social media often?
I know we always hear that we should have good self-esteem and love ourselves. But, have we ever heard falling in love with ourselves with self-care. I feel like self care goes hand in hand with loving yourself. When you are focused on yourself in a healthy manner you tend to make better decisions, love who you are and have better self-esteem. I have realized over the years that I love myself but don't do as much self-care as I think I do.
For example, I rarely take off work and go on vacations to clear my mind, I don't visited the museums often as I should, and my journal hasn't seen me in so long. I know you're reading this and thinking, "Oh maybe, you were tired, or lazy, or just forgot." The truth is... I shouldn't be lazy when it comes to taking care of myself because at the end of the day I only have one body, mind and soul. I need to take care of every part of myself. Proper self-care is needed to function everyday.
When I was in my masters program for counseling, my teachers kept emphasizing the topic about self care not only for clients but for therapists because you can't help someone else when you aren't taking care of yourself -- which goes into my topic for today. Self-care is so important because of the main elements of self-care: physical state, emotional state, spiritual aspect, personal care, and professional commitments.
According to the School of Social Work at University of Buffalo, "Self-care refers to activities and practices that we can engage in on a regular basis to reduce stress and maintain and enhance our short- and longer-term health and well-being. Self-care is necessary for your effectiveness and success in honoring your professional and personal commitments."
I know it is something that you love to do, eat, or wear. Why not do everything that you love? Go to museums more often. Eat a slice of cake every Friday. Spend one hour at the gym. Wear mascara everyday. Do something that contributes to your happiness and lowering your stress. Self-care can include actions as well as thoughts. You can spend every morning doing meditation or saying affirmations. From healthy eating to mindfulness to relaxation to reducing stress can all contribute to having a balance of self-care.
It is important for you to have great self-care, it can make all the difference in the world to a better you. Knowing that I need to take care of my mind, body and soul can help me have better self care. But, I think we should all have this philosophy. The more we love ourselves, do things that make us happy, self-reflect and fall in love with who we are....the better off we will be. Be good to yourself.
QOTD: What is one thing you love to do?
Recently, I read a book about lipstick called The A to Z of Lipstick by Poppy King. I stumbled across the book at the library and I think I was being pulled to read it because I ended up finding some other beauty books as well that were so interesting. But... let's get to the point I am trying to make lol. The book spoke about how lipstick can give you more confidence and how it can change how you feel in some aspects because of the color and "power" of lipstick. I agreed to a certain degree because when women put on makeup it helps with their confidence, creativity and views of how they seem themselves.
Confidence can come in many forms from different things that we do, wear and our environment. I believe that confidence is an important attribute for every woman to have whether it comes from working out, putting on your lipstick or wearing a certain bra. Every woman has their thing that makes them feel more confident. There's nothing wrong with that.
I love putting on perfume and lipstick before I leave the house because it makes me feel good.
Let's talk about the definition of confidence. According to the dictionary, confidence is the feeling or belief that one can rely on something or someone. But, to me confidence is so much more and is the appreciation of self. Confidence can go a long way because it can help you love yourself, have positivity around you, and have you understand how amazing and unique you really are. I believe that when you are confident, you can have a different outlook on the world and yourself. Confidence can make you turn a negative situation into something that you learn a lesson from.
Believe in who you are. No one can replace you and even though there are billions of people on the planet no one is like you. You are an unique aspect in this huge multiverse. It is important for each one of us to have self love, self appreciation and self awareness. I have struggled with confidence over the years because I was surrounded by an environment that always made me question who I was but now that I am free it and on my own I am able to embrace who I am. I have realized that I am analytical, intelligent, funny and creative but also beautiful, strong, have unique name and my tallness is amazing. I think when we accept ourselves for who we are, we come into our own confidence and with that we love ourselves even more. Don't be confident because the world tells you to but be confident for yourself.

I have to be honest with you, I never thought I would be vegetarian until the idea came to me when I was in college. But, for some reason I kept putting it off over the last few years. I never pictured myself only eating plants and really watching what I ate when it came to animal products. But, then in 2017 all of that changed when I watched the documentary Mission Blue on Netflix last fall. The documentary is about a well known marine biologist and oceanographer Sylvia Earl that gave the audience insight on why the ocean specifically fish are so important. After watching the film, I just instantly felt terrible about the way I treated the planet and how important animals are for the eco system.
I always cared for animals and believed that they should be treated right but it never clicked in my mind about eating them. Animals really do help the planet continue to function. Bees help create more plants for us to eat such as fruits & veggies, and fish and underwater plants are able to keep the ocean healthy. Becoming vegetarian is more than not eating animal flesh but a lifestyle of seeing the world through a different lens of what you eat, seeing how valuable the planet is and ways to watch what goes into your body. I watched videos and read books about the vegetarian lifestyle which were really informative. But, reading and learning new alternatives helped me transition cold turkey into the vegetarian lifestyle. I was surprised that I went cold turkey but it happened and I haven't looked back since.
My top five reasons that I went vegetarian (but trust me girlfriend there is an entire list):
1. I am against animal cruelty and value how important animals are.
2. I want to treat the planet right and watch how I treat my home.
3. There a lot of unhealthy ingredients in food that I wasn't aware of and I think being able to grow my own food is important.
4. Humans can live off of plants and I like the fact that I am getting important nutrients all throughout the daily.
5. I want to take care of my body to the best of my abilities.
I wanted to give you all insight on my lifestyle and how I came to becoming vegetarian & throughout my blog I will be reviewing vegetarian dishes at random restaurants that I want you all to try out! I want to pay it forward with giving my readers healthy tips because I would want someone to do that for me (:
