I have to be honest with you, I never thought I would be vegetarian until the idea came to me when I was in college. But, for some reason I kept putting it off over the last few years. I never pictured myself only eating plants and really watching what I ate when it came to animal products. But, then in 2017 all of that changed when I watched the documentary Mission Blue on Netflix last fall. The documentary is about a well known marine biologist and oceanographer Sylvia Earl that gave the audience insight on why the ocean specifically fish are so important. After watching the film, I just instantly felt terrible about the way I treated the planet and how important animals are for the eco system.
I always cared for animals and believed that they should be treated right but it never clicked in my mind about eating them. Animals really do help the planet continue to function. Bees help create more plants for us to eat such as fruits & veggies, and fish and underwater plants are able to keep the ocean healthy. Becoming vegetarian is more than not eating animal flesh but a lifestyle of seeing the world through a different lens of what you eat, seeing how valuable the planet is and ways to watch what goes into your body. I watched videos and read books about the vegetarian lifestyle which were really informative. But, reading and learning new alternatives helped me transition cold turkey into the vegetarian lifestyle. I was surprised that I went cold turkey but it happened and I haven't looked back since.
My top five reasons that I went vegetarian (but trust me girlfriend there is an entire list):
1. I am against animal cruelty and value how important animals are.
2. I want to treat the planet right and watch how I treat my home.
3. There a lot of unhealthy ingredients in food that I wasn't aware of and I think being able to grow my own food is important.
4. Humans can live off of plants and I like the fact that I am getting important nutrients all throughout the daily.
5. I want to take care of my body to the best of my abilities.
I wanted to give you all insight on my lifestyle and how I came to becoming vegetarian & throughout my blog I will be reviewing vegetarian dishes at random restaurants that I want you all to try out! I want to pay it forward with giving my readers healthy tips because I would want someone to do that for me (:
